Cyclotourism Receives Great Support

The staff of the Zagorje Development Agency has announced that “The Green Zagorje Heritage Tour” project has been launched in order to try and position the whole area of Croatian Zagorje as a cyclotourism destination.

The Zagorje Development Agency has been involved in several major tourist projects aimed at promoting tourism in Croatian Zagorje and the surroundings of Zagreb, as well as educating the local population on how to increase the competitiveness of their products on the market.

“The Green Zagorje Heritage Tour” is a theme tour, i.e. a cycle route which connects the main points of interest in the County of Krapina and Zagorje. The route includes the must-visit Zagorje spas, the pearls of cultural, historical and nature heritage, several family-run tourist farms, and restaurants which serve local delicacies.

The project is not a typical local endeavor but rather a joint venture undertaken in cooperation with the Kozjansko Development Agency within the framework of the European Interreg III project which involves Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary.

The project will amalgamate all the tourist resources as well as all the other development programs and the networks of tourist roads and routes on both sides of the border with Croatia. The project also envisages setting up an adequate data base and a quality information booth network. The project plan also takes into account the necessity to educate tour guides, set up marketing strategies and publish promotional materials as a simple and effective tool to present the most important features of Zagorje cyclotourism to the potential market.

Another ongoing project by the Zagorje Development Agency, in cooperation with the aforementioned state institutions, is aimed at increasing the human potential for cross-border cooperation. The main objective of the project is to increase the present capabilities of the rural population and small businesses as they should play a major role in the development of tourism in the entire region.
