Equal Opportunities Festival – Equal Opportunities for All
More than 900 amazing performers, of whom around 600 have disabilities.
The Equal Opportunities Festival is an annual international celebration of urban culture performed by people with disabilities from the music, theatre or art scene. The festival takes place from 22 to 24 May on Trg bana Josipa Jelačića. The festival has been enriching Zagreb’s cultural and tourist offering for 16 years now with its original format and programme concept, raising awareness in society about disabilities. More than 900 performers from Croatia and abroad, of whom around 600 have disabilities, take part in this three-day street festival. The festival comprises music, drama, art, film, educational, recreational and sports programmes. The educational and recreational programme is particularly interesting since it comprises of mobility games in which celebrities and the public take part, with simulated disabilities on an improvised training ground. In this way they gain first-hand experience of what it is like to get around in a wheelchair or to orient yourself in space with the help of a white stick. The festival attracts more than 15,000 visitors each year.
