From the Museum to Mount Medvednica

After last year’s successful premiere “season”, the Croatian Natural History Museum will once again organize interesting science tours called “From the Museum to Medvednica”. All who are interested will have an opportunity to participate in these popular programs until early November.

The project “From the Museum to Medvednica”, organized by the Croatian Natural History Museum in Zagreb, will be ongoing until the beginning of November. After premiering last year, this year’s edition is already underway. Throughout May, the first visitors have already had a chance to participate in numerous educational tours; others will also have plenty of opportunity to do so in the upcoming months.
As the project’s title suggests, this is a tour that begins at the Croatian Natural History Museum, attractively located in the Upper Town (Gornji grad), from which guided tours depart towards Zagreb’s Mt. Medvednica, where scientific theories can be tested first hand in the natural environment.
The project is intended for all generations and its goal is to familiarize visitors with the natural life of Medvednica.
Tours begin with popular science lectures about Medvednica, each of which deals with a different topic: geology, zoology, botany, etc. Walks along the selected mountain trails are guided by museum specialists who reveal the natural phenomena along the way.
The program for June is as follows: on June 10th, images from Medvednica will be projected as a backdrop to educational lectures on the subject of “Paleontological finds from the Veternica cave”. Two days later, visitors will have an opportunity to visit the Veternica cave on Mt. Medvednica, stop by the Glavica mountain lodge, and stroll along the sinkholes. Visitors will become familiarized with all of the important karst landscape phenomena, as well as the mountain’s diverse flora and fauna. Before the summer break, bat aficionados will have an opportunity to attend a lecture about these mysterious creatures on June 17th. Lectures and tours will continue on September 9th, when all of those who are interested will have an opportunity to learn about Zagreb’s natural heritage first hand.
