Grand Opening of the New Building
The new building of the Museum of Contemporary Art will be officially opened on December 11th. On this date the first visitors will have an opportunity to view the permanent exhibit from the museum’s rich holdings, which consists of some twelve thousand works by foreign as well as Croatian artists, created since the 1950’s.
The construction of the magnificent new building of the Museum of Contemporary Art has provided the city with yet another exquisite museum. Located in New Zagreb, the museum will be officially opened on December 11th and this will be the first showing of the museum’s permanent exhibit, “Collections in Motion”, which consists of 615 works by Croatian and foreign artists. Visitors will also have an opportunity to view a photography exhibit, “Museum before the Museum”, by Jasenko Rasol, which documents the construction of the new building. Apart from those two exhibitions, there will also be a presentation of works that have been donated to the museum over the past five years.
The Museum of Contemporary Art boasts a rich collection of art, consisting of some twelve thousand works by foreign as well as Croatian artists, created since the 1950’s until present time. The new building covers an area of five thousand square meters, three thousand of which will be occupied by the permanent exhibit, which includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, posters, films and videos, as well as works of new multimedia art; while the rest of the space will be utilized for organizing various exhibitions.
Besides exhibitions, the new museum building will also host other events, ranging from film projections, theatre performances and concerts, to lectures, presentations, and children’s workshops. The building also contains a library, restoration workshops, and an array of other facilities for aficionados of contemporary art.
