October is reserved for jazz

This year’s autumn music events will once again be marked by jazz concerts, which are traditionally organized throughout October. Numerous musicians from the domestic as well as global jazz scene will perform in renowned events such as the Croatian Jazz Meeting /Hrvatski Jazz Sabor/ and the International Days of Jazz.

After that, between the 19th and the 22nd of October, the Small Hall of the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall will host the jubilee 20th International Days of Jazz. The organization of this event was initiated in 1991 by the jazz club Zagreb of the Croatian Composers’ Society.

This year’s International Days of Jazz will be opened with a concert by the Big Band of the Croatian Radio and Television, which will be conducted by the long-standing artistic director of jazz concerts at Lisinski, Antun Tomislav Šaban. Performing his compositions, the concert will feature numerous Croatian singers such as Massimo, Tony Cetinski, Arsen Dedić, Urban, Radojka Šverko, Vanna, etc. Among the foreign performers are Cameroonian bassist Richard Bona, who is already known to the Zagreb audience and who has already made a name for himself in the global jazz and world-music scene, and French pianist Jacky Terrasson, who was acclaimed in Zagreb in 2008, when he held a concert together with Michael Portal.

The stars of the 20th International Days of Jazz are the multiply-awarded American vocal group, the New York Voices, which will be performing in Croatia for the first time.
