Perforations in Zagreb, Dubrovnik and Rijeka

This year, the second edition of the “Perforations – a week of live arts” festival will present three different programs, which will be taking place between the 16th and the 25th of October in Zagreb, Rijeka and Dubrovnik. The themes highlighted by the artists will be ecological engagement and climate change.

The second edition of the “Perforations – a week of live arts” festival will be held in Zagreb, Rijeka and Dubrovnik between the 16th and the 25th of October. This year’s performances will focus on ecologically-engaged art that perceives climate change and attitudes towards the environment. Some of the ‘hottest’ global topics will be the main themes for almost all of the announced performances.

The program in Zagreb will take place between the 18th and the 22nd of October across several locations and audiences will have an opportunity to enjoy performances by some of the top artists from Croatia and the region such as Damir Bartol Indoš, Montažstroj, Marko Milić, Ivica Buljan, BADco., Filip Jovanovski, Igor Josifov, Senka Bulić, Martina Nevistić, Luka Dragić, Josip Horvat, Igor Eškinja, Ivana Sajko, SKROZ, Room100, Željko Zorica, Bacači sjenki (The Shadow Throwers) / Atelje 212 (Atelier 212), and many others.

“Perforations” represents an international festival with a program aimed at artists from Croatia, and its neighbouring countries, whose performances are based on dance, theatre or any other form of visual art. The main goals are the initiation of new productions, improvement of conditions for domestic and regional artists to present themselves, as well as the strengthening of ties on the independent cultural scene.

Each day, the Zagreb audience will have a choice of three or four plays, and we would like to point out the performance by Macedonian performer Igor Josifov, who has recently worked with Marina Abramović, one of the most influential performance artists in the world, at this year’s retrospective of her work at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Furthermore, we would like to point out performances by Ivana Sajko, the best known Croatian dramatist, as well as Ivan Buljan, the group Room 100, and many others.

The most impressive program, unified as the Night of Performances, will take place on October 21st at the Medika Autonomous Cultural Centre on Pierottijeva Street.

This year’s edition will feature a novelty: a two-day symposium about cultural management in which more than 200 directors of cultural institutions and art associations from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia will come together. The symposium will be held on the 19th and the 20th of October 2010 at Zagreb’s Museum of Contemporary Art in a partnership with the J. F. Kennedy Centre for Performing Arts from Washington, the US Embassy in Zagreb, and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia.
