The 85th birthday of the famous hotel
Since its opening in 1925, The Regent Esplanade Zagreb has been one of the city’s trademarks. Apart from travellers from the legendary train, the Orient Express, throughout history the hotel has been visited by members of royal families, great statesmen, artists and musicians from all over the world.
Marking a great jubilee, 85 years of existence, The Regent Esplanade Zagreb hotel is offering a celebratory atmosphere and numerous surprises to its guests all throughout April. The event is being marked by the number 85 because, that many years ago, the hotel opened for business under the name of Esplanade, offering the first such luxurious accommodation in Zagreb.
The hotel was opened on April 22nd, 1925, with the intention of offering luxurious accommodation to travellers onboard the famous Orient Express train. Since the very beginning, the hotel has been the scene of social and political happenings, and it has provided lodging to numerous great names from all over the world.
Although it has a long history, the hotel has been known for its flawless service quality as well as top class hotel standards since day one. In eight decades of business, the hotel has hosted kings, artists, and actors from across the globe. On the list of numerous dignified guests of this renowned Zagreb hotel, there are names of many statesmen and high-ranking politicians, as well as other members of the global elite. To mention but a few: famous conductor Arthur Rubinstein; the famous black Venus of Parisian cabarets, Josephine Baker; Louis Armstrong; Ella Fitzgerald; Gilbert Becaud; Maria Callas; Arthur Miller; Ephraim Kishon; Orson Wells, etc. Aside from providing accommodation for numerous persons from the political and public life from all over the world, the Esplanade hotel has also been the centre of Zagreb’s social life for a very long time.
Throughout its history, the hotel has been completely renovated several times; the last time in 2004 when it received a new look and a new name: The Regent Esplanade Zagreb. That year, the hotel became part of the world Regent International group and the first Regent hotel in Europe. Business nowadays includes the recognizable gastronomic selection of the new restaurant Zinfandel's and it offers guests the same luxury it did in times of the famous Orient Express, thus nurturing the spirit of old Zagreb.
