The Green Flower with Gold Border Goes to Zagreb
The City of Zagreb is the recipient of a very special award – The Green Flower with Gold Border, as a result of this year's action "I Love Croatia" during which the Croatian Tourist Board judged the best appointed cities, towns and other places in the continental part of Croatia.
The City of Zagreb is this year's recipient of the special recognition "The Green Flower with Gold Border" which was awarded to the city at the end of the "I Love Croatia" action. The high recognition, awarded by the Croatian Tourist Board, takes into account and rewards the overall appearance of the competing cities, towns and other places in continental Croatia. The City of Zagreb won the award for its overall appearance, the state of its facilities and tourist offer. On behalf of the City of Zagreb, the award was accepted by Ivo Jelušić, President of the Zagreb Tourist Board and deputy mayor of Zagreb, during the event "Days of Croatian Tourism" that was organized towards the end of October in Opatija.
In terms of the quality of life, Zagreb ranks among the healthiest cities in the world, and in terms of cleanliness, it is almost at the very top of the list in Europe. Zagreb was one of the founders of the "Healthy Cities" project which was launched twenty years ago by the World Health Organization. In mid-October this year, Zagreb hosted the International Healthy Cities conference for the second time in the history of the project. The World Health Organization commended Zagreb for its particularly advanced environmental protection system, social policies, the abundance of greenery and opportunities available to its citizens to improve the quality of life. Moreover, Zagreb is at the very top of the scale of European cities in terms of cultural events, street art, folklore, exhibition and various other happenings, and it also boasts the greatest number of museums per square meter. At this very moment, Zagreb offers a number of impressive exhibitions by international and Croatian artists, music played by world-renowned virtuosi, concerts and theatre plays, international events, etc.
