The magic lasts for two whole months!

This year’s 8th edition of the International Festival of New Circus will last for two whole months; from 24th October until 21st December the audiences will have an opportunity to enjoy outlandish stage-shows, incredible acrobatics and provocative performances, all of it in the tone of this year’s theme – magie nouvelle!

Encouraged by prior excellent reviews, the organizers of Zagreb’s Festival of New Circus have prepared a real treat for this year’s 8th edition of the festival – it will last for two whole months! Therefore, until 21st December the audiences will have an opportunity to enjoy numerous performance shows rarely seen in ordinary festivals. It is time for true autumn magic, which is promoted by this year’s 8th Festival of New Circus. Each previous edition had a new circus genre as a theme, so this year’s theme is magie nouvelle – a genre which has been rapidly developing over the past decade as an intriguing performance branch that consists of the greatest human fantasies such as flying, resurrection, mind reading, etc… With the help of new technologies and old, often ancient themes such as religious and magical rituals, magie nouvelle artists succeed in, quite literally, enchanting their audiences.

Some fifteen shows have been announced. Some will be performed by authors that the Zagreb audience has already had an opportunity to enjoy in previous years. Some of the shows have been performed around the world for years, but their quality has obviously not diminished. On the other hand, the organizers of the festival went to the far ends of the world in order to bring some of the best shows to Zagreb.

Victoria Chaplin and Jean-Baptiste Thierrée will enthral aficionados of new and old circus alike with their Invisible Circus. The show Gravity by the French troupe Cie 14:20 will defy gravity; Austrian artist Anne Juren is preparing some new magic combined with feminism; the group Freaky Friday will demonstrate the brutality of a roller coaster… For fans of more erotic provocation, there will be icons of the burlesque and the leading cabaret queens.

Apart from numerous shows, the festival will also feature many concurrent programs, including mentalism workshops by Kurt Demey and a large international conference on new magic.

The grand finale of the festival will be the real last supper on 21st December; the end of the world according to some interpretations of the Mayan calendar.

All shows and concurrent programs will take place in Novi Zagreb at Scena Travno and the Culture and Information Centre. For more information, please visit www.cirkus.hr.
