Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall: Open – Air Concerts

The Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall has recently received an open-air stage so it is now possible to enjoy performances of excellent musicians in a unique setting, under the stars.

In May the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall started organising performances on a newly-built open-air stage. Due to the pandemic and the earthquake last March, there were no performances in this Concert Hall for as many as 237 days so this “calendar of silence”, as it was referred to by the leaders of this music institution, ended with the opening of the open-air stage. The Lisinski Atrium stage, owing to which the schedule of concerts is quickly filling with performances of Croatian and foreign musicians and ensembles, was built in the passage between the Croatian Heritage Foundation and the Concert Hall.

Last year the Concert Hall marked 47 years since its opening. During almost half a century of its work, a number of music, dance and drama shows were performed on its stage by many of the best world and Croatian soloists, orchestras and ensembles. This Hall welcomed the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from London. The ensembles were conducted by Leonard Bernstein, Lovro von Matačić, Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, Valerij Gergiev and many other famous greats of the world music scene who added to the quality of cultural life in Zagreb and Croatia with their performances.

This Concert Hall in Zagreb was named after Vatroslav Lisinski (1819 - 1854 in Zagreb), the composer of the first Croatian opera Love and Malice. He is also considered the founder of the modern Croatian opera, solo song and choral and orchestral music.
