186th Samobor Carnival

The time of masks is upon us: the 186th consecutive Samobor Carnival will kick off on 11th February. Once again, this year, you can look forward to some serious fun, entertainment and a lot of laughs all the way up until 21st February! Join us!

Brace yourselves for a magnificent carnival event: the 186th Samobor Carnival starts on 11th February. It will go on until 21st February, during which time around 200 thousand masked visitors are expected to descend upon the streets and squares of this beautiful little town. Samobor will again become a Free Carnival republic, as the main protagonists, Sraka (magpie), Prince Fašnik (prince of the Carnival), Sudec (judge) and Fiškal (lawyer) take charge of the keys to the city. There will be a lot of various events for all generations, whereas the Samobor restaurants take full responsibility for the ample supply of carnival delicacies.

Samobor's is the largest and most fun-packed carnival in north-western Croatia and the most important tourist and entertainment event in Samobor. The town itself is nestled on the slopes of the Samobor mountain range, the very place that the Croatian Mountaineering Society chose as its first excursion point way back in 1875. Ever since then, generations of Zagreb’s citizens have been taking day trips to Samobor. Carnival time is upon us and Samobor is again fully expected not to disappoint. Its streets will be swarming with masked visitors, many of them from other Croatian cities, who will partake in the parade and the many other carnival events. The most imaginative and creative part is bound to be the Children’s Carnival which will encompass a children’s parade, a best mask contest, as well as many other musical and theatrical events. But fun will certainly not stop there as the youngest carnival patrons may look forward to other fun things to do, such as participate in workshops where they will learn how to make masks from paper, sponges or other handy materials, as well as take part in other educational and entertaining events.
