A season marked by premieres

As of late September, yet another exciting season 2010/2011 has begun at the Croatian National Theatre. This year, audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy a selection of premieres as well as repeat performances of famous dramas, operas and ballets by Croatian, as well as foreign troupes.

Along with Variations in f.ado minor and Swan Lake, this year’s ballet season at the Croatian National Theatre will be ceremonially opened on November 19th by a premiere of the piece based on the poetry by the great Croatian poet of the 20th century, Dobriša Cesarić.

It is a ballet performance named “The Silence of my Murmur” by director and choreographer Leo Mujić, who found inspiration for his piece from Cesarić’s verses. Considering that the piece is interwoven with tunes by famous classical composers, as well as electronic music beats by young Croatian composer Anita Andreis, it will certainly gain fans among the audiences of all generations.
The repertoire of the new ballet season includes two more premiere performances: an Evening of Three Ballets, and the evening dedicated to authors Krešimir Seletković and Martin Müller. The Evening of Three Ballets will feature interesting, world-famous short ballet pieces: Concerto Barocco to the music by Johann Sebastian Bach, the Five Tangos by Ástor Piazzolla and part of the classic ballet piece, Paquita, to the music by Ludwig Minkus.

In the third premiere performance the audience will have an opportunity to become familiarized with the work by the young, multiply-awarded Croatian composer, Krešimir Seletković, which is often performed at concert halls across Europe. His music has been choreographed for the stage by the renowned European choreographer, Martino Müller.
Among repeat performances, audiences will have an opportunity to once again enjoy pieces such as The Lady of the Camellias, The Nutcracker, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote and the aforementioned Swan Lake and Variations in f.ado minor.

Moreover, this season’s opera program includes three big premieres: the famous operetta, The Bat, by Johann Strauss jr.; Wagner’s piece, Parsifal; Verdi’s Troubadour; and a children’s opera, Hillary the Witch Goes to Opera, by author Peter Lund. At the end of the season, opera ensembles of the Croatian National Theatre, conducted by maestro Nikša Bareza, will perform the premiere concert of parts of the most significant pieces of the rich Croatian opera heritage.
