Americans and Japanese Push Upwards

A majority of Zagreb’s guests arrive from Germany, but according to statistical data, during the first seven months of this year, the highest numbers of recorded guests were from the United States of America and Japan.

During the first seven months of this year, the tourists who stayed in Zagreb, 355,687 in total, accounted for a 9 per cent increase on the same period last year. They also accounted for a total of 650,026 overnights which was a 7 per cent increase. Domestic guests showed a somewhat higher growth rate as the 100,655 of them accounted for 193,123 overnights and continued the upward arrival trend recorded over the past two years.

Among foreigners, Germans kept their leading position in the tourist turnover of the capital of Croatia. They were closely followed by guests from the United States of America, who recorded an increase both in the number of arrivals and the number of overnights, 10 and 12 percent respectively.  Japanese tourists rose to the high third positions, pushing back the Italians. Over the past few years, the arrivals of tourists from Japan have shown a steep upward trend thus record breaking results should not come as a surprise. However, the 68 per cent higher number of Japanese tourists in Zagreb during the first seven months of the current year in comparison with the same period last year is a truly impressive result. In fifth place were guests from France, followed by Austrians and guests from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who accounted for a 9 percent increase in the number of arrivals and 16 per cent increase in the number of overnights on the same period last year. During the same period, Zagreb recorded a 6 per cent increase in the number of guests from Great Britain, who are also among the ten top-ranking nations in the tourist turnover of Zagreb.
