An Artistic Treat in the Arts Pavilion – A Passion for Creation: Masterpieces from the Collection of the Maeght Foundation

The Arts Pavilion continues with a series of wonderful international exhibitions. From 5 October 2017 to 14 January 2018 visitors can enjoy the exhibition “A Passion for Creation: Masterpieces from the Collection of the Maeght Foundation.”

The project aims to present the best works from the collection of the Foundation of Marguerite and Aimé Maeght, among the most important private foundations of modern and contemporary art with its home in the little town of Saint-Paul de Vence near Nice, France. The Foundation has global significance since its collection includes an exceptionally large number of works by the most important artists of the 20^th century. Thanks to the excellent cooperation between the Arts Pavilion and the Maeght Foundation, visitors will be able to view works by some of the greatest names in the history of 20^th century art such as Georges Braque, Marc Chagall, Alexander Calder, Joan Miró, Balthus, Pierre Alechinsky, Pol Bury, Erró, Sam Francis, Ellsworth Kelly, Barbara Hepworth, Paul Jenkins, Konrad Klapheck, and many more – a total of 64 works.

The exhibition comprises 25 artists representing cubism, expressionism, abstract art and fantasy, or rather they represent various artistic directions in modernism in the 20^th century. Of particular interest in this exhibition are the works by the famous French painter and sculptor Georges Braque, one of the key protagonists in art in the 20^th century. The exhibition includes 21 works by Braque – paintings, sculpture, reliefs and drawings. The exhibition is sure to capture public attention with the works of wonderful American artists which will, just like those of Georges Braque, be presented for the first time in Croatia and this part of Europe. The works concerned are those by the unmissable and significant American artists Alexander Calder, Sam Francis, Ellsworth Kelly and Paul Jenkins! Zagreb and its visitors will have the chance to see the words of artists who left their mark on the 20^th century all under one roof.
