An Attractive Tourist Area Close to the City

The tourist area "Across Sutla and Žumberak", to the Northwest of Zagreb, includes numerous tourist attractions. The area is in close proximity to the Croatian capital and thus, it will provide a lot of pleasure to the city guests who chose it for their outing.

The tourist area "Across Sutla and Žumberak", which was joined last year by many municipalities in the Zagreb and Krapina and Zagorje Counties, as well as by regions around the Slovenian border, offers tourists a specific type of entertainment packaged into different tourist programs. This tourist area unites different regions which share the same characteristics: rolling hills, wine routes, interesting cultural and historical itineraries, rural tourism and last, but not least, good food.

One of the starting points for a visit to the "Sutla and Žumberak" area may be the town of Samobor, whose architecture and tradition make it attractive for a tourist visit. The town boasts several excellent restaurants serving traditional dishes and specialties, such as the famous Samobor kremšnita /vanilla custard based dessert/, štrukli /cottage cheese filled pastry, baked or boiled/ and many others.

Only a few kilometers from Samobor is an attractive ethnological estate, Pod Okićem /At the Foot of Mt Okić/. En route to Croatian Zagorje and the areas around the Slovenian border, you should also visit the area around Zaprešić which boasts a colorful history. The Zaprešić castle and manor route is just one of the region's tourist attractions. In addition to the 6 castles and manors, it features many sacral buildings, churches and chapels, picture postcard pretty views of nature and an ornithological reserve. In the area there are also a few interesting municipalities bordering on the Krapina and Zagorje County, such as Dubravica and Marija Gorica. Just like the other Zagorje municipalities, they offer some specific attractions. As you venture deeper into Croatian Zagorje, the tourist offer broadens. In addition to the traditional customs and ways of life you can experience there and gastronomic specialties of the area that you can taste, there is also a wealth of historical and cultural creation on offer. The tourists are recommended to visit Klanjec, the cultural and historical center of the western part of Croatian Zagorje, the cradle of Croatian literature and art known for the great figures who hail from there. One of them is certainly Anton Mihanović, the author of the Croatian anthem, whose bust was erected in the main Klanjec square as early as 1910. This is also the native region of the great painter Oton Iveković and Antun Augustinčić, a world renowned sculptor whose artistic legacy is housed in his Gallery, in the very center of Klanjec, in close vicinity of the attractive Franciscan Monastery.

All of the above is but a fraction of all that the area "Across Sutla and Žumberak" has to offer to tourists. The mild autumn weather is ideal to go on a discovery quest and to have fun doing it, of course.
