Austrians in Search of a City Break

The data produced recently by the Tourist City Board of Zagreb show that Zagreb is no longer just a randomly selected stop-over on the way to the Adriatic coast, but a true tourist destination which was visited by over half a million guests from January to October this year. As a result of efforts and hard work on the part of the Zagreb Tourist Board, Zagreb has been positioned on the tourist market as an attractive city break destination.

The increased interest in Zagreb as a city break destination is illustrated by a group of 430 Austrians who recently spent a weekend in Zagreb. The guests found accommodation in Panorama Hotel and spent the first day, Friday, in well-known Zagreb restaurants, Vinodol and Kaptolska Klet. On Saturday, they explored the city.

They spent Saturday evening at the Croatian National Theater, enjoying the performance of “The Barber of Seville” directed by the reputable Croatian theater director, Krešimir Dolenčić, whose claim to fame is his direction of Verdi’s Aida, a grandiose opera production with 2,300 participants at the International Art Festival in Shanghai.

Of the total number of visitors who arrived in Zagreb from January to October of this year, Austrians account for 20.5 thousand, five per cent more than in the same period last year.

Austrian tourists are the fifth ranking nation based on the number of arrivals in Zagreb, after guests from Germany, the USA, Italy and France. In terms of the number of overnights, they were the sixth ranking nation with 33.3 thousand overnights during that period.
