Dare to come!

If you like science fiction, horror and nightmare films, Zagreb has prepared yet another summer festival just for you: the Fantastic Zagreb Film Festival! This event will be taking place each night between the 2nd and the 9th of July.

Among the numerous entertaining festivals, which Zagreb’s tourists will have an opportunity to enjoy this summer, we would like to highlight the premiere, or the so-called ‘Zero Edition’ of the Fantastic Zagreb Film Festival. The festival will be taking place between the 2nd and the 9th of July in two locations: the Europa cinema; and the open-air summer cinema on Gradec, in the Upper Town, on the plateau in front of St. Catherine’s church. Those who enjoy horror movies are invited to attend, as this newest festival in Zagreb is dedicated just to them.

Aside from horror films, the festival will also feature numerous science fiction films, series marathons, famous Asian horrors, thrillers, animation, experimental film, eerie dramas, quirky films from the former Yugoslavia, 3D nightmares, etc…

The festival unifies an array of fantastic film titles that will be screened in six categories. The Panorama programme will feature a selection of the best films from recent global production, while the Midnight Madness category will feature horror, suspense and thriller movies. The Orient Express programme will feature films from Asian countries, which have a longstanding horror tradition. The Night Marathon category will feature creepy film series, while the last two mewill be dedicated to retrospectives: the first entitled YU SciFi, will present radically different films produced within the region; while the second will focus on Japanese Exploitation Films, with the motto: good movies, bad taste!

Among the numerous titles that will be screened at the festival, we would like to call attention to a few: Finnish hit “Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale”, Spanish horror “Exorcismus” (La posesión de Emma Evans), Korean film “I saw the Devil”, and the Japanese movie “Outrage” (screened as part of the competition for the Palme d’Or award at the 2010 Cannes film festival). Apart from films and series, the Fantastic Zagreb Film Festival also includes an array of concurrent events, discussions, meetings with filmmakers… Moreover, viewers who choose to see films from the programme of the Gradec Summer Cinema will be doing so under a dark, night sky, which will definitely contribute to the eerie atmosphere that aficionados of such films expect.
