Daytrips by Train

The increasingly popular train travel takes excursionists from Zagreb to various destinations across Croatia. Since the beginning of the year, Croatian Railways has organized more than a hundred such trains, which have attracted a growing number of daytrip travelers.

Stubičke Toplice (Spa), the stork village Čigoč, a city of fairytales Ogulin or Županja - famous for its harvest celebrations, are just some of the destinations which can be reached from Zagreb by specially organized tourist trains. Like in the previous 13 years, the Croatian Railways offer daytrips to various destinations across the country and, since the beginning of the year, over a hundred such trains have already been organized. Pets are allowed on all of these train journeys and, on some of them, you can also take bicycles.

Until August 17th swimmers and pool-party enthusiasts can reach the Stubaki Spa by the popular “Gubec Express” and a one-day return train ticket includes an all-day pass to the outdoor pool! Additionally, the beloved “Karlek” train can take you to Ogulin, where fairies and witches will join cheerleaders and folklorists as your welcoming committee. The extensive tourist package includes a gastronomic experience, a tour of the old city and the Museum of Ivana Brlić Mažuranić, the famous Croatian writer of children’s stories. Moreover, this daytrip provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy the natural wealth of the Ogulin region. The excursion train “Žetelac” (Harvester) carries passengers to the Harvest Festival, which takes place on the 5th of July in Županja. This event is a great chance to spend a memorable day celebrating the colorful Slavonian culture by allowing festival-goers to participate in traditional customs.

The excursion trains with continental destinations are gaining popularity and attracting an increasing number of passengers. Last year alone, there were some three hundred departures! The most popular destinations are the Lonjsko Polje and Kopački Rit Nature Parks. The former includes a visit to the picturesque stork village Čigoč. The excursionists have also developed a taste for the traditional events in Slavonia, the autumn festivities in Lika and the chestnut picking festival in Hrvatska Kostajnica, as well as many others that are enticing an increasing number of excursionists with their attractive events.
