Until August 25th, the Ethnographic Museum will feature an exhibition by Dutch photographer Bert Teunissen - "Domestic Landscapes - Croatia in Europe". The exhibition was organized in cooperation with the Dutch Embassy in order to mark Croatia's accession to the EU. By purchasing an entrance ticket, each visitor automatically takes part in a prize giveaway with a plane ticket to Amsterdam as the main prize.
Dutch photographer Bert Teunissen has been working on his project "Domestic Landscapes" for 16 years already. It was inspired by the simplicity of ordinary people. He entered their homes across Europe and photographed them within the intimacy of their living space. In a way, his photographs are reminiscent of the paintings by the old Dutch masters, especially the interiors painted by Johannes Vermeer and Pieter de Hooch. In 2010, he spent some time in continental Croatia. Enchanted by the natural beauties and the local way of life in accordance with nature, as well as the hospitality of the locals, he took a series of photographs in the Slavonian villages of Drenovac, Brekinska, Bučje and Gaj, including them in his archive of photos from all the corners of Europe. Every country has its own culture which is evident in its homes, customs and traditions, but there are also many mutual aspects. This idea of cohesion is beautifully illustrated by the works of the Dutch photographer.
