European water-polo championship

The hot summer days in Zagreb will be additionally heated by the atmosphere of the European water-polo championship. This event is due to be held between August 29th and September 11th at the swimming pools of the Mladost sports park, along the bank of Sava River. Considering the success Croatia has had with this sport in the past, and the expected arrival of numerous spectators, we can confidently announce this as a great entertainment opportunity.

Between August 29th and September 11th, the Mladost sports park (along the banks of Sava River) will be the heart of sporting activity in Zagreb. The Croatian capital will host the European water-polo championship for men and women, and organizers have announced the participation of 20 national teams: 12 male and 8 female.

Since Croatia has had great success with this sport in the past, especially the male team, the support of numerous spectators is expected. Numerous rivals will be participating in the championship and the very first day of the competition promises an exciting atmosphere as the event will be opened by the Croatian team in a game against the current European champions and great rivals from Montenegro.

The contest will feature two groups. Along with Croatia and Montenegro, Group A will consist of teams from Italy, Romania, Spain, and Turkey. Group B will feature teams from Serbia, Hungary, Germany, Russia, Macedonia, and Greece.

Games between these great teams will certainly provide a thrilling atmosphere and, since the Barracudas (a popular nickname for the Croatian team) are aiming for gold, Zagreb and Croatia might be in for a good tournament. Since all sporting successes by Croatian athletes are celebrated on the main city square, the Croatian audience is already hoping for such an outcome. The goal has been set, and September will show whether it is achievable.

Of course, we must not disregard the female part of the competition in which, according to experts, great surprises can be expected.
The female competition will consist of eight teams: Croatia, Russia, Italy and Greece in Group A; and Spain, Hungary, Holland, and Germany in Group B.
We must point out that the Mladost sports park will feature ten games a day: six in the male competition, and four in the female. Semi-finals and finals will take place between the 7th and the 11th of September. Since spectator seating at the pools is limited, tickets for the final games, priced between 50 and 150 Kuna, have been available since late July.
