EXTRAVAGANZA AT THE LISINSKI – THE VIENNESE WISE ORCHESTRA'S EASTER GALA CONCERT
Thanks to the management of the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, Zagreb City Council and the City Office for Education, Culture and Sport, this Easter in Zagreb a unique musical experience awaits us: the Gala Concert of the St John Passion, the masterpiece by Johann Sebastian Bach.
The concert will be held at Lisinski on Thursday 13 April at 7 pm.
This Baroque masterpiece brings to the stage acclaimed Viennese orchestra the WISE Consort, made up of international soloists and the Grammy award-winning Arnold Schoenberg Choir. The concert will be conducted by well-known Viennese conductor Erwin Ortner. The St John Passion is considered one of the most beautiful compositions of its time and for centuries has been an integral part of the Easter repertoire of the most respected international concert halls and opera houses. The beautiful arias and motets are characterised by a wonderful sacral score which with good reason is considered one of the crowning moments of European culture. It depicts the events of the Last Supper, the Crucifixion and the burial of Jesus. The Bible stories are conveyed by the Evangelists, St Peter and Pontius Pilate, who are brought to life by top international soloists led by Croatian Matija Meić in the role of Jesus. This concert by these prestigious Viennese musicians will put Zagreb on the map as a European capital of culture and provide listeners with an unforgettable Easter.
