Glass, My Second Body

Glass, My Second Body – a display by the Croatian artist Gordana Drinković, who uses her breath, imagination and skill to create items from glass, is the latest exciting exhibition opened to visitors at Zagreb’s Museum of Arts and Crafts.

Throughout March, fans of glass and the way it can be made into attractive items will have the opportunity to visit the exhibition “Glass, My Second Body” at the Museum of Arts and Crafts.

It is an exhibition by the Croatian artist Gordana Drinković, who presents herself through her glasswork; using her breath, thoughts, imagination and skill, she creates items that communicate to the world much like a woman communicates with her surroundings as a sensual, erotic and sometimes wild being. That is exactly what the exhibition title is suggesting, because all of the glass items she makes and exhibits are reflections of her being and body relative to the contemporary outside world. The fact that some celebrities privately enjoy her glasses is proof enough of her exquisite talent as an artist.

Items have been divided into five sections – Glasses; Glass, My Second Body; Prosperous Table; Glass Cities; and Op Art – Made in Croatia.

The Glasses section features functional, unique drinking glasses named Touch, Mistakes, Salsa… There are also small aperitif glasses named Favourites, and the wine-glass collection includes two glasses named after Brad and Angelina, having been made as a gift for their wedding.

Glasses from her Tango collection, made from black glass, which are also privately enjoyed by the renowned British art couple, Gilbert and George, is proof of Gordana Drinković’s enormous talent as an artist.

The section titled Glass, My Second Body presents various items ranging from glasses and vases to all kinds of bowls that feature the artist’s face, while items from the Prosperous Table section share only the theme of experimentation in their production.

The section Glass Cities features a collection of candle-holders, the shapes of which are reminiscent of the architecture of imaginary cities.

The full title of the final section, Op Art – Made in Croatia, actually means “dangerous product of abstinence from creating out of glass”, and it involves a creation process that has been on-going since 1991, and it addresses the complicated situation in Croatia in terms of the non-existence of production and inability of creating art out of glass.
