On October 2nd, the exhibition “Joan Miró – Masterpieces from the Maeght Foundation” will be opened at the Art Pavilion. This will be the first European exhibition of works by the famous Catalan artist from the holdings of the renowned foundation, which is located in the small French town of Saint-Paul-de-Vence near Nice.

The authors of the exhibition are the director of the Maeght Foundation, Olivier Kaeppelin, and the director of the Art Pavilion, Jasminka Poklečki Stošić. Visitors will have the opportunity to see around forty works by the great artist. Apart from France, Miró’s work is featured only in the Miró Foundation in Barcelona.

Of the forty or so works of art which will be exhibited at the Art Pavilion, there will be 21 sculptures and 16 paintings, while the rest will be tapestries and lithographs. Although Miró is best known as a painter, he was also an excellent sculptor, and the Maeght Foundation owns most of his sculptures – a total of 150 of them, since Joan Miró was good friends with the founder of the foundation, Aimé Maeght. This year the foundation celebrates 50 years of its existence.

The exhibition at the Art Pavilion will feature the great artist’s works created after the Second World War, in the second half of his life, while visitors will also have the opportunity to see photographs from the Maeght Foundation, as well as a documentary film about Miró.
