Mariza once again in Zagreb

The great musician, Mariza, currently one of the most popular fado singers in the world, is once again coming to Zagreb. She will hold a concert on November 3rd at the Hypo Centre on Slavonska Avenue. Apart from her vocal ability, her performances are particularly memorable for their exquisite stage shows.

After four years, Mariza, will once again perform for the Zagreb audience on Wednesday, November 3rd, at the Veliki Kornati hall of the Hypo Centre on Slavonska Avenue. Although she has only been singing fado for seven years, her exotic appearance and an always impressive stage show have made Mariza one of the best known (and most popular) fado icons in the world; many place her alongside the numerous great singers of the past, such as Amalia Rodrigues, Edith Piaf, Elis Regine, Ella Fitzgerald or Judy Garland.

Although she is known by her stage name Mariza, she was born Marisa Nunes dos Reis, and she inherited her love of fado from her Portuguese father, a great aficionado of traditional music of his country.

She has, thus far, released three albums. The first one, “Fado em Mim”, recorded in 2001, sold an unbelievable 100.000 copies, and the biggest hit from that album, Transparente, propelled her among the stars. The song was dedicated to her grandmother who is of African descent. Not only did she confirm her status as a global star with her second album, “Fado Cuvo”, but that album is considered a forerunner of the so called New Fado, which is nowadays being interpreted by numerous new fado stars.

Her third album was recorded in 2005 and it was titled after her first big hit, the aforementioned song Transparente. The album was recorded in Brazil and it was produced by the great Brazilian musician Jose Morelenbaum, whose wife is a known Brazilian Bossa Nova star who will also soon perform in Zagreb, in the Factory of Culture on October 29th. Apart from her hits, many remember Mariza for her duet with Sting, which they recorded for the Global Day of Peace during the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Ticket prices for Mariza’s concert are 250 Kuna for the green zone, 270 Kuna for the blue zone, and 290 Kuna for the red zone. The number of tickets is limited considering that it is a seated concert.
