Newly opened: the Marton Museum

The new, private Marton Museum opened in mid-March at the baroque Kulmer Palace in the Upper Town. The museum features a diverse collection of items such as porcelain, glass and clocks made by renowned manufactures across Europe during the second half of the 18th and the first half of the 19th centuries.

Since mid-March, the beautiful baroque Kulmer Palace on the square of St. Catherine has been the location of the newly-opened private Marton Museum. It boasts an impressive and representative collection of porcelain and glass. The museum’s owner is the renowned Croatian collector, Veljko Marton.

The collection consists of everyday items made from porcelain – such as figurines, cups and plates – that were made by renowned manufactures in Germany, Russia and Vienna during the second half of the 18th and the first half of the 19th centuries; the museum also features glass items, numerous clocks, paintings etc.

As a great aficionado of European applied arts, Veljko Marton has been gathering items for his collection over the course of many years. Eight years ago, he opened a museum in a 19th century mansion in Samobor, in which he lived with his family; already then, the collection was visited by numerous people. Apart from Samobor, Marton exhibited items from his collection in other cities across Europe, such as Paris, Vienna, Venice, etc. Aside from citizens of Zagreb, the exhibition is now also more accessible to numerous visitors of the Croatian capital.
