Piano genius Evgeny Kissin opens the new season

One of the most distinctive musicians in the world, piano genius Evgeny Kissin, will be part of yet another interesting concert season 2010/2011 at Lisinski, which begins on October 9th, with his premiere performance in Croatia on November 9th.

Starting on October 9th, the new concert season at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall will offer aficionados of classical music an array of attractive concerts by big names from all over the world. The most distinctive among them is one of the greatest piano geniuses of our time, Evgeny Kissin, who will be performing in Croatia for the first time; the Zagreb audience will have an opportunity to see him live on November 9th at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall.

The poetic nature of his interpretation and exquisite virtuosity places him among the best in a new generation of young pianists from all over the world. He has thus far performed with the best orchestras in the world and was conducted by numerous great maestros of our time, such as Abbado, Ashkenazy, Barenboim, Dohnanyi, Giulini, Levine, Maazel, Muti, Ozawa, Svetlanov and Temirkanov.

However, he is not the only star of this year’s concert season, which begins with the Metropolitan program in Lisinski or, in other words, with the new production of Wagner’s Rhine Gold, on October 9th.

Concert seasons traditionally feature the already familiar programs Lisinski on Saturdays-always Lisinski, and the aforementioned Metropolitan Lisinski, both of which guarantee exciting music events.

After Wagner, on October 10th, there will be a performance by Elina Garanča, a Latvian mezzo-soprano and one of the greatest opera stars today, who will introduce herself to the Zagreb audience with the backing of the Symphony Orchestra of the Croatian Radio Television. She has won numerous awards, including four for the best singer of the year (Echo Klassik 2007 and 2009 Awards, Musical America Award 2010, MIDEM Classical Awards 2010), and she is a top class vocalist who has already appeared at the world’s most renowned operas such as New York’s Metropolitan, London’s Covent Garden, and the Viennese and Bavarian state operas.

Furthermore, on Saturday, October 16th, there will be performances by laureates of the Milka Trnina award, which has been awarded by the Croatian Society of Musicians for more than half a century. On October 23rd, there will be yet another new production - M. P. Musorgski: Boris Godunov, which will be conducted by Valery Gergiev and performed by soloists Ekaterina Semenchuk, Aleksandrs Antonenko, Oleg Balashov, Evgeny Nikitin, René Pape, Mikhail Petrenko and Vladimir Ognovenko.
Another great music treat is in store on November 6th: the State Symphony Orchestra from Sao Paolo, undoubtedly one of the best American orchestras, will perform in Zagreb.
All of these events will be an ideal overture to the aforementioned music treat in the form of piano genius Evgeny Kissin as well as the long sold-out concert and exclusive music event – the Philharmonic of Milan’s Scala.
