SFeraKon 2019: Eventful Program for Sci-Fi Fans
All science fiction fans will have a special reason to choose Zagreb as their destination from 10 to 12 May. This is the period in which the 41st SF convention will take place, which will welcome many popular names of this genre from Croatia and abroad.
SFeraKon is the longest-running and the largest Croatian convention to gather fans of science fiction, horror movies and similar genres, but also the largest in Central and Southeast Europe and one of the largest European SF conventions.
Among many interesting activities of this year’s SFeraKon is also the marking of the fortieth anniversary of Alien, the most famous film monster. Lectures about the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit filming locations have also been announced as well as a lecture about the experience of being an extra in the Game of Thrones shooting in Dubrovnik and many other theme discussions and films.
Guests of Honour of this year’s SFeraKon are a writer and the author of the Rebel of the Sands trilogy, Alwyn Hamilton, a cartoonist, illustrator and writer John Kovalic, Captain Ghostly Cosplay (an alter ego of Mattian Story) and a physicist, professor and politician Ivica Puljak.
This year SFeraKon will welcome Trash Film Festival from Varaždin, a regional leader in trash culture. They will screen some of the best films from their archives to the visitors of SFeraKon.
A cosplay competition has also been announced, in which cosplayers, people whose hobby is to wear a costume of a comic book, movie or video-game character, will compare their knowledge, imagination and creativity. The first cosplay competition at SferaKon was held in 2009.
SFeraKon, which takes place at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, is organised by the Science Fiction Society from Zagreb, established in 1976.
