Show, attraction, glamour and provocation
On 31st March, Zagreb will host the icons of the American New Burlesque troupe and the stars of “Tournée”, a film awarded at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. You should therefore brace yourself for a big attraction, a lot of glamour, sauciness and a humoristic cheek that can be presented by nobody else but the Cabaret New Burlesque.
As part of their European tour the Cabaret New Burlesque, a major American attraction, will descend upon Zagreb on 31st March and certainly attract many to the large cinema hall of the Students’ Centre.
The programme will be performed by members of the popular group of burlesque show dancers and stars of the film “Tournée”, the recipient of a 2010 Cannes Film Festival award. The dancers have been demonstrating their love of arts for a number of years by staging rather unconventional theatre shows all over the world, from New York to Francisco, and from London to Paris. They have gained global stardom in the process.
They are dangerously entertaining, cheeky and candid; their graceful bodies are the only medium they use in this original and attractive show. Therefore, this performance is not recommended for those under 16 years of age.
New burlesque is a performance art form which skilfully combines sensuality, elegance, humour, provocation and satire. All this takes place on a stage set up to convey the glamour of the first half of the 20th century. Although one of the globally best known burlesque theatre stars, Dita Von Teese, is not a troupe member, it should be noted that the dancers will be joined by her good friend and personal choreographer, Catherine D’Lish, aka Miss D’Lish. She is one of the most awarded and most influential burlesque performers of today, and so the Zagreb audience should consider itself privileged indeed. Having said this, one should not ignore the other stars of the show - Dirty Martini, Julie Atlas Muz, MiMi Le Meaux and Kitten on the Keys, and the only male representative, a pioneer of the San Francisco boylesque - Roky Roulette. On the stage he transforms himself into punk rock versions of a cowboy, astronaut and even Louis XIV.
The troupe’s guest appearance is backed by the Students’ Centre – the Culture of Change and the Zagreb Tourist Board. The total duration of the show is about 75 minutes.
Before 8th March, the ticket prices range from 110 kuna to 190 kuna for a VIP ticket. After that date tickets will cost between 150 and 250 kuna. A VIP ticket includes a glass of champagne. The tickets may be purchased at Dancing Bear shops and in Octopus Piercing Studio.
