Soon to Move to a New Complex
The new building of the Museum of Contemporary Art will be opened in mid-December. The museum has a representative collection of some 14,000 works in its holdings by Croatian and foreign contemporary artists, which were created in the period between the 1950’s and today.
According to announcements by the city administration, the new building of the Museum of Contemporary Art will be opened in mid-December. The building is a magnificent structure, located in Novi Zagreb, where a collection of some 600 works by contemporary artists will be exhibited after the opening. That collection is just a part of the much larger permanent exhibit, which will be on show at the new museum building in the future, in a cycle of exhibitions entitled “Collections in Motion”.
The Museum of Contemporary Art boasts a large art collection consisting of some 14,000 works by Croatian and foreign artists, which were created in the period between the 1950’s and today. The initial exhibit, consisting of some 600 works, will soon be expanded by other pieces from the museum’s large collection. Therefore, the new museum complex, spreading across 3500 square meters, will feature a great artistic opus of both domestic and foreign artists. The collections include paintings, drawings, posters, films and videos, sculptures, and some new media art.
Apart from exhibitions, the new museum building will also cater to various other happenings, ranging from film projections, theater performances, and concerts, to lectures, presentations, and children’s workshops. The construction of this magnificent and multifunctional complex has provided Zagreb with yet another attractive museum which offers diverse events to its visitors. Among other things, the museum will offer the services of a library, restoration workshops, and an array of activities aimed at modern art aficionados.
