Summer at Stross

Until September 4th, the popular Strossmayer promenade in the Upper Town will feature free daily performances by various bands as part of the “Summer at Stross” – the longest standing cultural and tourist event in Zagreb.

Zagreb’s popular Strossmayer promenade is always very lively but now even more so; every night it will host free performances by various bands. The stage is located beneath the Lotršćak Tower, which houses the cannon that announces noon each day, and music performances will continue until September 4th, when the “Summer at Stross” officially ends.

We would like to remind you that this cultural and entertainment event has been taking place every day throughout the summer for the past eleven years in a row. The “Summer at Stross”, popularly known as Zagreb’s Strossmartre, is based on the Montmartre of Paris. Whole-day programmes provide tourists with ample entertainment; for instance, one can participate in open-air art displays, or simply watch paintings being made. Other original events include contests for the best mixed-breed dog as well as half-New Years’ celebrations with fireworks etc, in addition to concerts of all music genres and stand-up comedy shows.

The programme begins each day at 11 a.m. with art displays, when the entire promenade is packed with painters, paintings, painting stands and souvenir stands, as well as stands selling various snacks and delicacies. Afternoons are reserved for walks in the shade of chestnut tree canopies and exploring the Upper Town. Concerts begin in the evenings but there are also many other concurrent events that attract numerous tourists and make this promenade a place of fun and entertainment. So join us, because summer in Zagreb truly is interesting.
