Summer cinema under the stars

Each day, beginning at 9 p.m., there are free projections of films under an open sky at the Gradec summer cinema, which attracts citizens of Zagreb and tourists alike. Why not join them?

This year, the Gradec summer cinema is once again the venue for interesting film evenings under the stars. This is an event that attracts numerous film aficionados, and which was first launched last year by Zagreb’s popular street musician troupe: the Street Kings.

Projections take place every day starting at 9 p.m. in one of the oldest parts of Zagreb from where, during the 13th century, the city began expanding outwards towards its current borders. This year’s repertoire of films includes 40 titles from several European countries, the United States and Japan. Films are of different genres and they will be screened until September 4th.

Apart from local film buffs, the Gradec summer cinema also attracts numerous tourists who frequent the Upper Town. Entry to all projections is free of charge, and films are screened in a very relaxing atmosphere. There are 300 seats for visitors, but people may also bring their own folding chairs, thus creating a relaxed home-like atmosphere.

The Gradec summer cinema is located behind the Upper Town grammar-school, and this year’s programme was opened by an excellent British film, The King’s Speech. The list of all films that will be screened can be found online at www.ljetnokinogradec.com
