Swimming followed by beach-volleyball

As a continuation of a traditionally entertaining August at Jarun Lake, early September promises even more. During the first two days of September, the “Sea of Zagreb”, Jarun Lake, will be the venue for several beach-volleyball tournaments. Aside from the major international Jarun Erste Open tournament, which will take place between the 9th and the 11th of September, there will also be five smaller beach-volleyball tournaments. Come swimming and enjoy top-class beach-volleyball!

Between the 9th and the 11th of September, Zagreb’s “sea” – Jarun Lake – will be the venue of a major international beach-volleyball tournament, the Jarun Erste Open, in which a total of 32 teams from numerous European countries will take part. The first day of the three-day tournament will feature qualifying games, while the final two days will consist of play-offs and the finals.

According to the organizers, the tournament will feature 16 male and 16 female teams and, in addition to witnessing exemplary beach-volleyball skills, visitors will also have an opportunity to enjoy various other concurrent events. There will be great music, prize giveaways, parties with entertainers, and several smaller volleyball tournaments, including: the Croatian Championship for younger age groups; the Croatian Championship for cadets and younger cadets; the Championship of Zagreb, for all age groups; and the final of the Summer League, as well as a Recreationalists’ Tournament.

Of course, not all of the tournaments will take place at the same time; some of them will take place during the first weekend in September. Regardless of when the tournaments are scheduled to take place, one thing is for sure: September at Jarun will once again be very lively. Since the six beach-volleyball courts are all located alongside the Small Lake of Jarun, with five “blue flag” beaches on its shores, the atmosphere is often reminiscent of that on some of the best beaches at the Adriatic coast. The Jarun Lake complex consists of two lakes – the Large Lake and the Small Lake – as well as six islands, numerous restaurants and clubs, and a large sports and recreational centre.
 
The rowing regatta lanes feature training sessions as well as competitions for rowers, kayakers and canoeists, while sail-boaters and windsurfers conduct their training on the Large Lake. Jarun Lake is also ideal for fishing, while the surrounding land consists of numerous football fields as well as basketball, handball and beach-volleyball courts. In addition to sporting facilities, everyday recreationalists can make use of kilometres of walking paths, 5,500 meters of bicycle and rollerblading tracks, jogging paths, courts for recreational games of football, basketball, bowls, volleyball, beach handball and football, badminton, mini-golf and suspended bowling, as well as a skate-park, tables for table tennis, a garden chess-board, and a wading pool for non-swimmers.

Along the shores of Jarun Lake there are 2,500 meters of pebble beaches and the entire surface of the recreational and sporting centre is connected by kilometres of walking paths and bicycle tracks. Along the shores there are some 20 beach huts with adjacent concrete barbecues and there are also numerous outdoor sanitary facilities, which have also been adapted for disabled persons, as well as beachside showers. Thanks to numerous clubs and cafes, during the evening hours Jarun Lake transforms from a popular sports and recreational centre into an attractive venue for night-time parties.
