The 16th Festival of St. Mark

The 16th Festival of St. Mark will feature performances by top class Croatian as well as foreign musicians and renowned ensembles, and it will take place between April 25th and May 10th in concert halls and churches around the city.

Classical music lovers already know that this time of the year is reserved for excellent international events, such as the Festival of St. Mark, taking place for the 16th time this year. The festival was conceived as a combination of a traditional and contemporary international event. It will begin on April 25th, St. Mark’s Day, at the church bearing the saint’s name located in the Upper Town, and it will last until May 10th. This international music event, which ranks among the best festivals of its type in Europe, features performances by top class Croatian as well as international musicians and ensembles, and it takes place in various concert halls and churches around the city.

The festival will begin with a concelebrated mass featuring the Oratory Choir of St. Mark’s Church, Cantores Santi Marci, conducted by Jurica Petar Petrač, while audiences can expect an array of concert treats throughout the duration of the festival. It is enough just to mention the performances by the Zagreb Quintet, the Bolero Ensemble of Berlin, the vocalists of the Lado Ensemble, the Cantus Ensemble, and numerous other top class performers, such as mezzo-soprano Marjana Lipovšek, bass Alfred Burgstaller, sopranos Lidija Horvat Dunjko and Tamara Felbinger, cellist Monika Leskovar, pianist Eva Mark Muehlher, etc.

The sponsor of the festival is the Zagreb City Assembly, and it is being organized under the auspices of the City Office for Education, Culture and Sport, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, and the Zagreb Tourist Board.
