Until July 17th, the Art Pavilion will feature the Annual Exhibition of the Croatian Photographic Union, ‘Zero Point of Meaning – Non-functional, Non-representational, Elementary, Experimental and Conceptual Photography in Croatia’. Strolling through the exhibition area, visitors will gain an insight into the possibilities of photography as an experimental and research medium, through which contemporary Croatian photographers, assisted with a camera lens, at one point realized their own artistic ideas.

The exhibition is the result of research undertaken by custodians Sandra Križić Roban, Irena Gessner and Ivana Hanaček, in cooperation with artists such as Boris Cvjetanović, Petar Dabac, Sandro Ðukić, Igor Eškinja, Ivan Faktor, Tomislav Gotovac, Boris Greiner, Vlatka Horvat, Željko Jerman, David Maljković, Antun Maračić, Enes Midžić, Marijan Molnar, Ivan Posavec, Davor Sanvincenti, Edita Schubert, Mladen Stilinović, Slaven Tolj, Goran Trbuljak, Josip Vaništa, Mirjana Vodopija and Fedor Vučemilović. In other words, the exhibition features works by artists who are not primarily tied to the medium of photography, but who consider it a means of mediating in the presentation of artistic content. This is perhaps best depicted by the 2009 photograph called “Versus”, which was captured by Davor Sanvincenti using an 82 year old camera and film that had passed its expiration date.

Within the framework of this exhibition, there will be an array of lectures and workshops, as well as a thematic issue of a bilingual magazine on contemporary art events, “Life of Art”, which has been published by the Institute of Art and History. The exhibition was established by the Croatian Photographic Union, with backing from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, the City Office for Education, Culture and Sport, and the Croatian Union of Technical Culture.
