The evenings of romance and old city songs

Every Tuesday, the Zagreb City Café in Zagreb’s main square, hosts the evenings of romances and old city songs. A journey down Zagreb’s memory lane is guaranteed!

The evenings of romances and old city songs – an attractive musical program launched by the Kings of the Street, Zagreb’s famous street performers, and their friends, will again attract droves of people to the Zagreb City Café.

This program was first launched by the Kings of the Street in October 2007. After a short break during the Christmas holiday season, the first reassembly of 2008 has been scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on 8 January. From that day on, the musical evenings will be organized every Tuesday at the same time.
The Kings of the Street band was established in Zagreb in 1987. Their main activity is playing music in the streets and squares of urban areas. Their favorite performance place is the Josip Jelačić Square, at the foot of Dolac, the famous green market in Zagreb. During their twenty-year long musical career, the Kings of the Street have traveled around most of Europe and have had successful appearances in most of the major cities of the old continent.

Refusing to yield to any new trends in music, the Kings of the Street have remained faithful to the retro-program and evergreens, refusing to allow this music to fall into oblivion. Thus, their repertoire is best described as the old city music and music of old Zagreb. Owing to them, this type of music nowadays resounds through the streets of Zagreb, but not in its cafes, which was the reason this attractive program was launched in the first place. It is a well known fact that in the past the Zagreb City Cafe was a cult venue and the gathering place of music lovers who came to listen to the best performers of contemporary urban music. The tradition was interrupted and in recent years it was impossible to find a single place in Zagreb that would offer this type of music. That is why the program was launched, and it is being offered to the old city music aficionados for an entry price of 30 Kuna (4 Euro).
