The International Youth Figure-skating Competition
Between the 26th and the 28th of November the ice-rink of Zagreb’s Dom Sportova sports hall will be the venue for the 23rd Golden Bear; the international youth figure-skating competition, in which some three hundred juniors from twenty countries will perform.
The Golden Bear, an international youth competition in figure-skating, will take place at the ice-rink of Dom Sportova sports hall between the 26th and the 28th of November, It is included on the regular calendar of the International Skating Union (ISU) and some three hundred young skaters, from twenty different countries, will compete in this year’s event, which is being held for the 23rd time.
The competitors will compete in six different age-groups and young skaters will be awarded points for their choreographies in short and free programs. Beside the competitive aspect, the audience will also have an opportunity to enjoy an entertainment program on ice as an added bonus.
The competition organizer is the Medveščak skating club, the oldest and best known ice-skating club in Croatia, which has trained some of the best Croatian skaters, such as Sanda Dubravčić, Nevenka Lisak, Tomislav and Željka Čižmešija, Idora Hegel, among many others.
Croatia is one of the rare countries that boasts four international competitions on the calendar of the International Skating Union; three figure skating competitions and one synchronized skating competition. These are: Golden Spin, the senior championship, the aforementioned Golden Bear competition, Mladost Trophy for juniors, as well as the synchronized skating Zagreb Snowflakes Trophy (Pahuljice).
