The last invitation to the Jack Freak Pictures

It is time for the last reminder of the exhibition by Gilbert and George, which opened in June. The exhibition, entitled “Jack Freak Pictures”, by the famous British artists can be seen at the Museum of Contemporary Art until September 12th. Since this is their final big exhibition, it would be a shame to miss it.

The exhibition by the renowned British duo, Gilbert and George, entitled “Jack Freak Pictures”, opened at the Museum of Contemporary Art in early June. It has thus far attracted a large number of contemporary art aficionados and, since these famous British artists announced this to be their last big exhibition, it would be a real shame to miss it.

Gilbert and George are among the most influential contemporary artists, and their works can be found in the collections of some of the most significant museums and galleries worldwide.

They are exhibiting in Zagreb for the first time, inspired by the opening of the modern building of the Museum of Contemporary Art. The exhibition is as equally provocative and interesting as the famous duo themselves. In some 60 paintings, the artists explore universal themes such as death, religion, life, nationality, sex, hope, and money. The recognizable symbol of the British flag, the Union Jack, is featured in most of the paintings, while provocative details are complemented by images of the artists themselves dancing, goofing around, howling, observing, and waiting. Some paintings feature their whole bodies, others only parts of their bodies, or their bodies somehow distorted. However, they always fill the roles of subject and object, artwork and artist; like actors in an epic and complex drama that they themselves created.

It is precisely for these reasons that they are known to the global audience. Their art, experts agree, relates to everyone in a way that does not provide answers but, on the contrary, each of their works evokes new, mostly provocative questions.

Contemporary art experts have proclaimed the Zagreb exhibition to be the most provocative one yet. Each work visually and thematically protrudes into the philosophy of modern life so intensely that, even though it is symbolically tied to Britain, it provokes numerous questions of the modern world in general. With their work, they pose the basic and simple questions about religion, identity, politics, economics, sexuality, and death. Therefore, the “Jack Freak Pictures” exhibition has once again confirmed the status of Gilbert and George as prominent modernists whose works must be seen.
