Yamato Drummers at Dom Sportova Sports Hall

As part of their world tour, the Japanese Yamato drummers will hold a concert on March 19th at Zagreb’s Dom Sportova. For seventeen years this act has been attracting and entertaining millions of fans across the globe with their energetic performances and dominating two-meter drum.

The world-famous Japanese Yamato drummers will hold a concert at Dom Sportova Sports Hall on March 19th, conveying the rhythm and energy of ancient Japan to the Croatian audience in an exciting two-hour long show. The Yamato drummers of Japan are a percussion band consisting of 15 members, whose synchronized beating of the taiko drums conveys an ancient rhythm. The most impressive part of the show involves the large two-meter drum that weighs over half a ton.

The band was founded in 1993 in Nara, which is the birthplace of the Japanese Buddhist culture. Their act has thus far been seen by more than two million people in some fifty countries and they will be performing for Zagreb audiences as part of their Matsuri-Fiesta world tour.

The story of taiko drums has roots in the ancient history of Japan. At the first sounding of these drums, people would stop working and follow the drummers, celebrating the joy of life. This is how, several centuries ago, the Matsuri Festival came to exist, which is nowadays concerned with the preservation of traditional, ancient percussion music.

Apart from the Yamato drummers, who will be performing in Zagreb for the first time, the Zagreb audience has already had an opportunity to attend performances by Japanese percussionists: the Kodo ensemble, and Za Ondekoza. It is expected that this drumming spectacle will also have great attendance. Tickets for the Yamato drummers can be purchased online as of mid-February at www.eventime.hr, and they cost between 210 and 450 kuna.
