On the 2nd and the 22nd of April, the repertoire of the Croatian National Theatre will feature Wagner’s opera, Parsifal. It premiered in late March to mark the 150th anniversary of the theatre.

Among many eminent musicians visiting Zagreb this year, the Liverpool based new wave band, Ladytron, will be performing on May 5th. The Croatian capital will be among the first cities in which this music sensation will present their two latest albums.

The largest national science event, the Festival of Science, will take place between the 11th and 16th of April in several cities. This popular festival will offer Zagreb’s visitors an unfailing source of science and it is taking place in various locations throughout the city. There will be numerous programmes each day, from morning until dark, for a total of six days – all in accordance with this year’s main theme: light.

The jubilee 20th “Days of Croatian Film” will be taking place at the Student Centre between the 4th and the 9th of April. Once again, it will offer the best of contemporary domestic production within six official categories; there will also be presentations of films outside the competition and an array of other events that should not be missed.

As part of the largest international tourism exchange, the ITB in Berlin, there is a fierce competition of promotional music videos nominated for the “Das Goldene Stadttor” award. Among the entries, the public decided that the video by the Zagreb Tourist Board, “Moonlight Sonata Zagreb”, was worthy of first place.

Zagreb’s two newest museums, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Museum of Broken Relationships, have been nominated for the “European Museum of the Year” title. Among the nominations of 34 museums from 15 countries, both of them will be competing for recognition as the best European museum of 2010.

The new, private Marton Museum opened in mid-March at the baroque Kulmer Palace in the Upper Town. The museum features a diverse collection of items such as porcelain, glass and clocks made by renowned manufactures across Europe during the second half of the 18th and the first half of the 19th centuries.

As of mid-April, Zagreb’s streets and squares will once again be the venue for various promenade events that will be taking place as part of this year’s “Zagreb Time-Machine” tourism project.
